Solo Atheniensium sapientissimus dicitur, qui leges scripsit quibus hodie quoque reguntur. Eum tamen quidam1 interrogauit : « Cur nullum supplicium constituisti in eum qui parentem necauit ? » Respondit Solo se putauisse neminem2 id facere posse. Solo sapienter fecisse dicitur quoniam scelus numquam antea commissum nullo supplicio sanxit : ita non prohibere sed admonere uolebat. Sapientiores contra fuerunt nostri maiores. Intellexerunt enim nihil3 sanctum sceleratissimis hominibus esse atque in parricidas supplicium singulare excogitauerunt : uoluerunt eos in culeum uiuos insui atque ita in flumen deici.
